As we near the end of 2023, we are constantly thinking of all our past students, friends and colleagues in Palestine, and hoping for an end to the genocide.
In 2023, 563 people here in Ireland participated in workshops or longer term projects with us. Our circus clubs and youth ensemble in Dublin and Wexford now consist of almost 50 students, and the students in each group are going from strength to strength.
Through our outreach programmes in Direct Provision centres throughout Dublin and the South East of Ireland, we reached over 75 children in 2023. Thanks to South Dublin County Council, we were able to bring together students from a DP centre together with students from our circus classes at Perrystown Community Centre for a jam-packed Cruinniú na nÓg. We also enjoyed partnering with Richmond Barracks, the Taghmon Family Resource Centre and others on various projects throughout the year.
This year, we were delighted to work with the Autism unit in St Kevin’s primary school in Dublin, and also with various other primary schools in Dublin and Wexford. We also had the pleasure of working with fantastic secondary schools in various locations throughout Dublin and surrounding counties. Some of our students at Riverview Educate Together even enjoyed stiltwalking to school recently as part of the Walk on Wednesdays initiative.
We worked with both young and old members of diverse communities in 2023, including the Irish travelling community, and we have been enriched by all of our experiences, so we would like to extend a huge thanks to all the participants we have reached this year, for your energy, your trust and your calculated risk taking!
The evaluations this year from our Youth Advisory Council, and our weekly students in county Wexford and South Dublin were all full of fantastic, positive feedback, so for us that means we will consider 2023 a successful year. We have many exciting projects planned for 2024, and we look forward to sharing them with as many diverse parts of Irish society as possible.
We received only one critique in our 2023 evaluations, from Lua Rose and Lauren, in Dublin, and that was that we should have more stilts, so we have our fingers crossed that Santa will deliver on that one!
