Open Call: 3 day choreographic workshop
Multidisciplinary dance theatre maker Helen Keenan is seeking dancers to participate in a 3 day choreographic workshop as part of her residency at Dance Ireland.
Throughout this time we will explore non traditional approaches to dance and choreographic processes. This workshop will end with a sharing of work via the New Movements programme.
‘In the Grey” is a term Helen has coined in order to describe the grey area that exists between the categories of “fully able” and “disabled”. In this choreographic experiment, Helen will lead the creation of choreography that speaks to this theme, and illustrates the voices, challenges, beauty and ability of all on stage who are “living in the grey”.
Helen is particularly interested in working with participants who may be navigating long term injury in some capacity, or who is living with long term/ life-long conditions that are not recognised under the category of disability, but that still cause barriers to some extent in their lives/ career as a dancer.
Each workshop day is 10.30am-5.30pm. We will explore approaches to choreography that is person centred and inclusive, as well as using text, authentic movement and unique devising exercises to generate choreographic phrases.
Workshop dates are: Tuesday 31st Aug, Wednesday 1st September and Thursday 2nd September.
Helen welcomes dancers from all social, ethnical and cultural backgrounds and welcomes people of any ability, gender and sexual orientation.
