Announcement: Safe to Create updates and renames the anonymous, information gathering tool.

Safe to Create is excited to announce that Report + Support, the anonymous information gathering tool for the arts and creative sector, launched in June 2023, will be renamed Inform to Transform. Some changes to the content of the tool will also be implemented. The changes take effect on Wednesday 25 September.

The scope of the tool has been broadened to gather data on experiences of ableism, homophobia, racism, transphobia, as well as harm related to age, socio-economic status, and civil status within the industry. Safe to Create has made these changes to reflect feedback from artists and advocacy groups, as well as relevant findings and recommendations from both the Influencing Change and AMPLIFY reports. The changes highlight the tool’s role in informing the programme about experiences and ensure a comprehensive understanding of current issues, rather than serving as a reporting mechanism. The new title, Inform to Transform, better represents its purpose, with the collected data continuing to shape the design and delivery of supports to ensure they remain relevant and effective in addressing emerging challenges.

In the first year since the tool went live, over 100 reports have been submitted from individuals across art forms including theatre, visual art, literature, comedy, film, circus, craft and design. The analysis of the submitted information provides insights on harmful behaviour in the workplace, highlights areas of concern, informs the development and focus of Safe to Create supports and, feeds into recommendations for the sector.

The name change recognises the importance of the tool, as information and insights gathered support the transformation of the arts and creative sector workplace culture.

Inform to Transform (formerly launched as Report + Support in June 2023) is an anonymous reporting tool for the arts and creative sectors, to enable Safe to Create to understand the current health of workplace culture and practices. The tool is used by artists, arts workers and creatives to voluntarily report incidents of bullying, harassment and sexual harassment that they have experienced or witnessed. It is fully anonymous, safe and secure. Those who use the tool will not be asked to identify themselves or disclose personal information. Information submitted through Inform to Transform is analysed twice annually to do the following:

  • Provide up-to-date data on harmful behaviour in the sector.
  • Highlight areas of particular concern.
  • Inform the development and delivery of Safe to Create supports where they are most needed (e.g. training, legal supports, mediation and counselling).
  • Inform recommendations for sector-wide action.
