.The main objective of Irish UNIMA is to develop and promote the art of puppetry within Ireland and of Irish puppeteers internationally. The underlying ethos is to strive for social justice, fun and equality of participation. Irish UNIMA is a national branch of UNIMA International affiliated with UNESCO. UNIMA stands for Union Internationale de la Marionnette which is the oldest international theatre organisation in the world. We see puppetry as an artform transcends language, embraces diversity and inclusivity and is environmentally conscience. It can also be produced with relatively low cost but also have a wide reaching impact.
Irish UNIMA has a growing and diverse membership which has doubled in the past 2 years, when people with a puppetry background arrive in Ireland they seek out the national UNIMA. Our members are multinational and include asylum seekers, artisits, puppeteers, puppet makers, producers, directors, set designers, costume designers, writers, storytellers, actors, film makers and voice actors. Though puppetry is not traditional to Ireland, storytelling is and we put this at the heart of our mission.
