Originally from Belfast, Andrew Loretto is an internationally experienced director, writer, dramaturg and producer for outdoor, indoor and site responsive performance and theatre.

Currently Hat Fair and Playmakers Director for Play to the Crowd, Winchester. Hat Fair is one of the UK’s leading international Outdoor Arts festivals.

Previously director of Right Up Our Street – Doncaster’s Creative People and Places programme, including establishing the DNweekeND city centre festival.

Andrew often devises and stages complex, large-scale projects, bringing together internationally experienced artists with local communities and cross-sector partners to animate and transform multiple city spaces to provide one-off experiences for audiences. As well as small-scale immersive experiences.

Recent directing projects include; MOONTOPIA (for B arts, Stoke on Trent); No Horizon (tour cut short 2 days before opening in 2020 due to lockdown – hopefully to be revived early 2023); Ikebana (Billingham International Folklore Festival); The Great Big Donco (Yorkshire Festival/Tour de Yorkshire); The Wakefield Mysteries (Theatre Royal Wakefield/Wakefield Cathedral) and founder director of Sheffield People’s Theatre (Sheffield Theatres).

Dramaturg for Company Chameleon (most recently The Shadow); and Fidget Feet’s A Handful of of Dreams, which premiered at Carlow Arts Festival 2021.
