Our February pick for the curated ๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ฆ ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ธ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ต series is ‘Exercises in Style’ by Raymond Queneau, selected by our Operations Manager Helen Collins.
About her choice, Helen says:
A writing exercise, where the same mundane story is told in 99 different ways. Recommended not just for writers, the book is helpful for sparking creativity generally, and realising how the same event can be experienced by multiple perspectives or expressed in diverse ways.
“…you know, it’s the story of a chap who gets onto a bus and starts a row with another chap who he thinks keeps treading on his toes on purpose, and Queneau repeats the same story 99 times in different ways – it’s terribly good…” writes Barbara Wright.
