Delve: Irish Aerial Dance Festival
Participant: Vicky Lennie
DELVE 19 offered me the chance to go to Fidget Feet’s Irish Aerial Dance Fest. Now in its 10th year, the festival was impressive in its scale and scope, offering classes in a wide range of aerial disciplines and hosting some excellent Irish and international performances.
As a visual artist and costume maker whose work is starting to veer towards performance, I found the classes particularly helpful in terms of the insight they gave me into the creative process of devising performance work. The total immersion in aerial for a week, including sharing accommodation with other festival participants, watching the shows together and discussing them afterwards, made for an intense experience. But once the tired body had rested, and the overloaded mind had begun to digest the wealth of information and inspiration absorbed during the week, I realised what my most valuable learning experience had been: I could see that the creative process is the same, no matter what medium or artform you are practicing in. This has given me a boost of confidence to venture into new ways of making artwork, while knowing I can use the experience I already have of working in other media.
Being a relatively new ISACS member, this was also a great opportunity to learn more about ISACS and the work they do.
I would definitely recommend to any other member considering going for DELVE to apply... and see what happens.
