THE ROLE:

The Costume Co-ordinator will be responsible for sourcing and making costumes, ensuring proper fitting and making necessary alterations as needed. The co-ordinator will work collaboratively under the Designer’s guidance to help execute the vision for the show. Most of the costumes will be sourced off the peg and adjusted, but there may be some small elements that are bespoke makes.

Circus as an artform makes many demands on the garments the artists wear so a readiness and ability to adapt and adjust garments in rehearsals is important. The candidate should have experience working with costumes for movement dance and ideally previous experience with circus. Your skills and expertise could be the missing piece to bring this thrilling performance to life!

ABOUT THE SHOW:

In Showdown, seven acrobats compete night after night in order to be crowned the “New Face of the Circus”. Led by a charismatic host, the audience is invited to join in and choose the winner of the coveted prize. As the game progresses, we learn more and more about the individual and shared experiences of the contestants, seeing connections and conflicts emerge as they gradually begin to question the game….

Powerful, relatable and simply a good night out, Showdown brings narrative contemporary circus to the Chamäleon stage. Standout acrobatics combine with entertaining satire through spoken word elements penned by rising comedy star Athena Kugblenu, all set to a captivating soundtrack of UK hip hop, grime and Afrobeat by London-based musician Afrikan Boy.

The show will run at Chamäleon Berlin for 5 months with up to 8 shows per week. Chamäleon is a unique creative venue that has firmly made its mark as the home of New Circus in both Berlin and Germany with a mission is to promote and to present contemporary circus to a broad audience. It is a unique playing space, with an intimate setting, giving a close-up experience of circus in a cabaret seating format.
