What to expect from the conference?

ISAN is thrilled to bring you the 2017 edition of Critical Mass: the National Outdoor Arts Conference, an essential meeting point for everyone involved in Outdoor Arts in the UK and Ireland, from artists, companies, technicians and producers to local authorities, agencies, venues and funding bodies.

  • We’ll look at why we do what we do, who we do it for and how we can do it better
  • We’ll exchange practical knowledge, experience, and news
  • We’ll take stock of recent developments
  • We’ll make plans for the future
  • We’ll provide advice, guidance and case studies for new festivals and emerging artists as well as experienced sector professionals

There will be presentations from inspiring speakers, knowledge sharing, the Outdoor Arts marketplace, mentoring and troubleshooting – and an evening dinner party hosted by Festive Road in their exciting cycle and creature-filled creation space.
Working in partnership with Festive Road, The Stables, DestinationMK and with the generous support of Milton Keynes Council, we look forward to two fruitful days of discussions, ideas, networking and planning.

What's the Idea Summit Market Place?

The Marketplace is an opportunity to share ideas at an early stage with all sorts of potential partners and festivals. This is not about selling existing shows or work that is already commissioned, it's about making connections for the future and sharing ideas to help them grow; of course, you may already have done some research & development and have some partners already in place, but really take this as a chance to think ahead. It could be a project that includes multiple artists, commissioners or companies and this is where you can start putting that team together.

The Ideas Summit 'Laundry Line' Marketplace:
The Marketplace will run at Festive Road Creation Space in Milton Keynes, as part of the Outdoor Arts Conference, on 28 Nov 2017 from 14:30-16:30 pm.
Two meters of washing line allocated to participants to ‘hang out’ their laundry: pics of your ideas, sketches, images of past work, costumes, advertising materials etc. Or even actual laundry for a broad range of festival producers, programmers, funders and potential collaborators or commissioners to look at.

It promises to be one of the most fun and effective pitching events of the year!

See you there!
