What's on at Spraoi 2018?
A dozen international and Irish Street Arts Acts!
The annual Spraoi Festival is held every August Bank Holiday weekend. Over three jam-packed days, Spraoi International Street Arts Festival locally known as “The Spraoi Weekend” will feature street artists from around the globe, presenting a thrilling selection of world-class street theatre attracting over 100,000 people to the historical city of Waterford. This year's Parade and firework taking place on Sunday end the weekend with a bang as a collection of BUGS inspired constructions and 300 costumed performers and musicians hit the streets to wow the audience with a mesmerising outdoor spectacle.
Spraoi’s commitment to the creation and development of new Irish work remains central to the company’s ethos and the festival will also host the 2018 NEST (New Emerging Street Talent) stage in partnership with ISACS. The festival will also be an opportunity for companies to network, as it will attract international programmers from all over the world. ISACS is particularly delighted to bring several international programmers and mentors to the festival for them to discover local talents thanks to Culture Ireland.
ISACS also particularly recommend to not miss ISACS members Ali & Henrik with Cikada, Fanzini Productions with Guido Fanzini's Impossible Circus and Waterford Youth Arts with 'Weird, Wacky and Wonderful'.
New Emerging Street Talents!
The professional development programme N.E.S.T: New Emerging Street Talent has come about through an innovative partnership between the Irish Street Arts, Circus and Spectacle Network (ISACS) and Spraoi Waterford where new emerging companies spent one week in residency at the festival's studios with mentorship by ISACS member Simon Thompson of Clown Noirfollowed by the presentation of their work in front of a national and international audience. It heightens the artists profile among programmers, national and international, and provides ongoing mentoring, support and guidance. Now in its third year, artists who have premiered new work under the NEST umbrella have toured these shows nationally and internationally. ISACS Network gratefully acknowledges the support for N.E.S.T. from the Arts Council of Ireland in its professional development programmes.
