Hands Down Circus is an emerging contemporary circus company that is passionate about experimenting with physical theatre, prop manipulation, hand to hand acrobatics and storytelling.
Before completing our BA degree at The National Centre for Circus Arts, we studied for two years on the Foundation Degree at Circomedia in Bristol. Here we developed our Physical Theatre skills, as well as studying and completing modules in Clowning, Live Art, Stand Up Comedy, and Burlesque. This has made HDC well-rounded and versatile, taking inspiration from many different artforms.
During our time at university, we obsessed not only with developing our technical skills in hand to hand but also with working with props – this saw us balancing towers of rings, dancing with cutlery and juggling duct tape around the stage between displays of dynamic acrobatics. We received extremely positive feedback on our work and led to us being advised and successfully becoming resident artists at The Roundhouse, London. This has encouraged us to continue making work combining the disciplines.
