Spraoi have once again partnered with the Irish Street Arts, Circus and Spectacle Network to bring you NEST 2021.
This years chosen artists are Baubo
Baubo have been selected as this year’s NEST artists. Their residency at Spraoi Studios will further develop Boubo’s concept for a chaotic troupe of not quite human troubadours and (im)morality players. Their work-in-progress Grotesque Bodies is a street spectacle whose style traces roots back medieval court jesters but that adapts for modern times with carnivalesque glee. This NEST version of Grotesque Bodies premieres in Waterford during City Spraoi,
Baubo is a new theatre collective committed to creating high-octane physical theatre strongly rooted in visual design and traditions of clown and buffoon. It was co-founded in 2019 by Liza Cox and Alex Herring and producer Elissavet Chatzinota and has had work programmed in multiple festivals including Galway Theatre Festival.
What this years NEST artists hope for:
We are absolutely thrilled to be part of the NEST mentorship scheme, and very excited to be working with Spraoi. This support will help us to achieve our wildest visions for this show, and we’re looking forward to wowing and disturbing people on the streets of Waterford. We hope to make an ordinary day… extraordinary.
We invite you to come and see Baubo perform their show The Cabinet of Curatrocities at the Festival in Wyse Park, August 5th to 8th at 3pm.
NEST is funded by Arts Council Ireland.
