CREATION 21/22 is a new initiative by Carlow County Council Arts Service in partnership with the Local Authority Arts Offices of Dublin City, South Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wicklow and Wexford in collaboration with Carlow Arts Festival, The ISACS Network, Dublin Dance Festival, National Circus Festival of Ireland,  United Fall Dance, Danseu Festival and led by The Performance Corporation.

In response to the ongoing crisis for artists and arts workers who have had little or no opportunity to share their work, or practice through traditional means over the past year, we are collectively creating a container of regeneration and growth during 2021 and into 2022 for performing artists through the establishment of The SPACE Programme.

The SPACE programme

This truly unique programme will be created for performing artists at all stages of their careers and across a range of disciplines (dance, theatre, circus, spectacle, performance art, street arts), to develop their practice, network, learn and showcase work with support from Carlow Arts Festival, The ISACS Network, Dublin Dance Festival, National Circus Festival of Ireland, Danseu Festival (Catalonia), and United Fall Dance. It will include in-person collaboration opportunities in Ireland, as well international residencies in 2021/2022.

The project offers artistic development opportunities through mentoring, coaching, residencies and ‘in-progress’ presentation opportunities as part of Carlow Arts Festival, Dublin Dance Festival, National Circus Festival and Danseu Festival. This project is an opportunity to deeply collaborate with artists from various performing art forms and areas of experience.

This residency is specifically focussed on performing artists in the East and South East region of Ireland, as well as European partners. It will be designed hand in hand with makers from the Theatre, Dance, and Circus/Street Art/Spectacle worlds to ensure it is delivering to the participating artists what they need at this time.

What’s on offer

10 residency places are available for artists living in the participating counties. At least one place is reserved for each participating County Arts Service: Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow, Kildare, Dublin City and South Dublin. Additional places will be taken up by artists from our international partner countries.

The project is flexible and will focus on creating space to support artists in the ways they currently need. We will work with the participants in the specific areas of their artistic development that require attention and create and collaborate from there. We encourage a broad scope of experience from senior national artists to emerging artists to ensure a collaborative blend which will be to the benefit of all involved.

Participants will receive a bursary of €4,000 supported by their local authority Arts Service. International travel costs associated with residencies are covered.
