HIP HOP BATTLE (TOP 8) SUNDAY 21ST MAY

A celebration of urban culture and street dance that brings together artists from Ireland and Europe
Join Hip-Hop innovator Tobi Omoteso and the Top 8 Team for Volume 3 of their hugely popular annual dance battle. Dancers from across Ireland and the world will showcase their best moves to represent themselves, their crew and their country in this epic dance event with live DJs KhanFu (UK) and Dmitri (Latvia).
Participants will compete in Breaking, Hip-Hop, Krump and Under16’s Allstyle battles. Dancers who wow the judges and the crowd will be chosen as this year’s Top 8 winners. The battle follows a day of workshops and competitive heats led by the Top 8 Team, who are passionate about bringing communities together through Hip-Hop culture.

Dublin Dance Festival popular FAST TRACK programme in collaboration with Live Collision is back for its fifth successive year. If you haven’t seen much dance but are curious to explore what it’s all about, then this is the perfect way to start.
On Saturday 27 May, let the Live Collision team immerse you in a jam-packed day of dance that will take you right to the heart of the 2017 Festival. Attend shows, meet Festival artists and engage in discussions about what you’ve seen in facilitated group sessions. Then you’ll meet back the next day for a debrief and a coffee, followed by a Sunday afternoon dance film screening. This is a great opportunity for anyone who’s keen to develop a critical eye and learn more about the artform. It’ll be fun and it’ll be FAST!
The two lucky Fast track participants will be treated to a 2-day intensive programme…be prepared for intense learning….
Provisional schedule for this is as follows:

Session 1: Meet and Greet & first session: 12pm - 1.30pm
Perf 1: Mithkal Alzghair's 'Displacement' Peacock Theatre (+ post show talk): 2 - 3.30pm
Break: 3.30 - 4.30pm
Session 2: + Meet the maker (artist TBC): 4.30 - 6pm
Break: 6pm - 7.30pm (for dinner plus time to get to the Beckett Theatre)
Perf 2: Philip Connaughton's 'Extraterrestrial Events' Beckett Theatre: 7.30 - 8.30pm
Perf 3: Pere Faura 'Striptease': 9 - 9.45pm + post show catch up in Bar
