This online information session for freelance artists and arts workers is designed to help unpack the updated Revenue Guidelines following the Karshan ruling.
This practical session will explore what the changes could mean for freelancers, including employment status, contracts, tax, and social protection. Topics will include:
- Understanding employment status and what the updated guidance means for self-employed artists.
- Contracts and working relationships, including what to look out for in future engagements.
- Employment rights, social protections, and what changes in status could mean in practice.
- Maximising and managing tax credits, particularly when working with multiple employers or sources of income.
- Implications for Auto-enrolment, VAT, allowable expenses, etc.

About the Speakers
Bruce Stanley
A Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, an AITI Chartered Tax Advisor, and member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Bruce has over 20+ years’ experience in practice. Bruce specialises in corporate structuring and personal tax planning for entrepreneurs and owner-managed businesses.
Bruce has a strong client focus providing bespoke commercial tax solutions to suit individual needs in areas such as business expansion, efficient cash extraction, employee incentivisation schemes and succession planning.
He has presented on a variety of taxation matters in Ireland and at international conferences on topics such as EU VAT case law, the Irish Holding Company regime, personal tax planning and tax efficient business investment.
Bruce has experience of advising across a broad range of sectors including Hotels and Leisure, Property Investment, Arts & Entertainment, Professional Services, Medical and Retail. With a keen interest in the Arts & Entertainment sector, he serves as a board member of the Irish National Opera and Rough Magic, Ireland’s leading independent theatre company. Bruce is also a former Chairperson of Graphic Studio Dublin, Ireland’s oldest fine art print studio.
About Peter Daly
A Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, Peter has over 25 years’ experience in industry and practice. Peter advises private clients and companies across a variety of business sectors and leads our Arts & Entertainment practice.
In addition to working as an accountant, Peter has also worked as an actor with most of the theatre companies in Ireland, including The Abbey, The Gate, Rough Magic, Druid and Fishable, and more recently as a writer. He co-wrote, and directed Swing, which was produced by Fishamble, and which toured extensively worldwide.
Peter has served on the boards of Dublin Fringe, Performing Arts Forum and Dublin Youth Theatre.
