What's on at Spraoi this year?

Spraoi Festival will host national and international acts at Ireland's longest running international street arts festival, all in the historical city of Waterford. The annual Spraoi Festival and Parade is held every August Bank Holiday weekend and celebrates Spraoi 25 years in 2017.

The Festival, devoted to Street Art has become a firm favourite among locals and tourists alike and attracts an over 100,000 people to Waterford City over its three days. It’s now better known locally as “The Spraoi Weekend”.

This year Spraoi celebrates River Suir, with Source to Sea theme.

Who are the Delvers?

Sharon O'Brien

Sharon O'Brien has always been a fairy and found a hula hoop in 2010 in a motivational workshop. 2 years later the hula hoop came back and soon The Fairy Hooper was born. She has since trained and taught in most of Ireland's leading professional training spaces such as Circus Factory Cork and Trallee Nation Circus Convention.

She then found her Prince in 2014 and The Fairy and the Fiddler fused together the flow arts of contemporary circus with unique improvisational sounds on the fiddle. They also run a music, arts, circus and events management agency.

"I’m delighted to a participant of the DELVE programme because I'm new in the sector and it would be a great networking opportunity and for me to understand the sector better, to be better prepared for my new role. I'm committed to the Delve programme and making national and international connections with other DELVE participants, ISACS team and the artists and organisations represented at Spraoi. "

What is the DELVE programme?

DELVE is a GO-SEE professional development programme supported by Arts Council Ireland, launched in 2016, to support ISACS members to get out, see and learn about street, circus and performance arts happening all around Ireland. The programme involves going to various festivals, seeing and observing work from the street, circus and spectacle sectors, meeting the artists, the crew and discovering new ideas, inspiration and delving into these art forms with fresh eyes!

The aim of DELVE is to encourage dialogue and discussion around a variety of arts forms in Ireland, and to offer critical discussion and analysis and dynamic practices. Participants are encouraged to submit feedback from the events which can be read on our website here

This year ISACS have partnered with Dublin Dance Fest – 18 – 28th May, Cork Midsummer – 16 –18th June, Waterford Spraoi – 4- 6th August, NCFI, Tralee – 10 – 12th November.
